VT Database Server
Centralized Asset Management and Security with the VT Database Server
Component Architecture
The core components of a NewsFlow system are the VT
SQL Database Service, (VTDB) running either on a
single Apella server or on a standalone server, and
the stored media assets located either on one or
more Apella servers or on a central NAS or SAN system.
All ingest/playout servers, high resolution editors,
and low resolution editors must access these two
components at some point in order to operate properly.
Dedicated SQL Database Server
The VT Database Server (VTDB) is a 1RU chassis running Microsoft SQL 2005 in a Windows Server 2008 environment, dedicated to acting as the
central SQL server for all Apella and NewsFlow clients.
This server is recommended when there are two or more
Apella servers on a network. This secures the VTDB
database on an independent server for high availability
of content. The option for the VTDB Failover Cluster
pairs up two VTDB servers and ensures security if one
server fails. Automatic failover protection provides
a high level of control and protection for HD or SD
production. System Backup and Disaster Recovery
Apella and NewsFlow provide several backup/recovery
schemes and fail-over redundancy mechanisms that
can be implemented for the particular needs of any
given size facility. All of these tools and procedures
are capable of protecting and restoring System assets
to varying degrees in accordance with different budgets.
